In principle, hot foil stamping is the process of using heat and pressure to apply metallic foil to card using a custom make stamping plate.

To create each print, a printing plate of your design is pressed into the paper stock along with foil and heat.

Our Top Tips for Hot Foil Stamping

  • Keep your design simple, we recommend minimal design elements to keep the foil the ‘hero’

  • Avoid solid areas such as backgrounds or large blocks of colour

  • Use a limited palette - we recommend 1-2 foil colours or 1 foil colour + 1 digital ink colour

  • Use thicker lines for text and illustrations for a more dramatic finish
